Free tools / GTM engineer hiring scorecard

Give the work the right shape

Decide whether the role exists before you hire for it.

Use six operating constraints to compare a permanent hire with project or fractional support. The result can also tell you not to hire yet.

Describe the work

Choose the answer that is true now, not the state you hope a new hire will create.

1. How settled is the market and offer?
2. How much recurring systems work exists?
3. Can the operating process be handed over?
4. Is the data foundation dependable?
5. Is the immediate need a project or ongoing ownership?
6. Can a manager set priorities and review the role?

How the recommendation is chosen

The model starts with two gates. If the market is still being tested or the work is sporadic, it recommends not hiring yet. A possible full-time fit requires all of the following: a full-time recurring workload, repeatable process, reliable data, ongoing ownership and management capacity. Every other combination points to project or fractional support.

The role should follow the system

A permanent hire is easiest to set up for success when there is a durable remit to own. One-off integrations, a data cleanup or an unproven market can be important work without being a full-time role. The output names those constraints instead of converting them into an arbitrary score.
